Last year we had a scary experience that led to me going from being a stay at home mom, to working outside of the home again. I had an app on my phone that had some crazy holidays on it, and my kids thought they were so funny. So in an effort to keep the bond between us strong even when I had to work extra hours, through many conversations with my husband I realized that what was important was the quality of time that we spent together rather than the quantity like it had been in the past.
I started just doing some that were fun, and the kids really embraced it. They looked forward to the days that we got to celebrate something silly. I went to the store and bought a desktop calendar and we went to work filling it together. We get most of our holidays from Giftypedia; however, some days have a lot of great ones that the kids will enjoy, and other days are not very fun holidays, so I will just let you know upfront that we move some around, and we also have a jar that when someone has an idea for a holiday they put it in the jar and we draw one when we need one.
I try very hard to keep up with these holidays for my kids, sometimes with their homework, and my job, we end up just not having enough time to celebrate and it gets put off until the next day that we have extra time.
