Happy Doughnut Day! June 5, 2015

I have kind of fallen behind on celebrations lately, I had a pretty bad respiratory flu that ended up being a severe case of pneumonia that landed me in the hospital,  but I'm back on my feet and ready to start celebrating life with my kids again.

Doughnut day happened to fall on my daughter's birthday, so what better way to celebrate both than by decorating doughnuts like little individual cakes.

Happy Limerick Day! May 12, 2015

Happy Limerick Day!  To celebrate we all wrote our own limerick, except for the two year old he had some help.  A limerick is a five line poem written in the style of aabba, and are often written to be humorous poems.

Dad is really great
He never makes us late
He takes us to school
And he's really freakin cool
That is not up for debate.
by: Buck

There once was a mom with a great big heart
Her kids filled the very biggest part
They smiled and giggled all the day through
Her heart swelled as the children grew
Because those kids were so very smart.
by: Trista

There once was a girl named Junee
Her friends thought she was looney.
She liked to ride her bike
And take her horse for a hike
She like her sandwich with bologna.
by: Junee

There once was a boy named ZanDen
He had a friend named Lanien
He was a boy scout
And had a pet trout
And had a hundred lego men.
by: ZanDen

There once was a girl named Tana
Her favorite fruit was banana
She liked to sing a song
She sang all day long
She was named after Johan Santana.
by: Tana

There once was a boy named “Tiki”
He was sweet as a boy could be
He liked to play baseball
And race from wall to wall
Every night he fell asleep on my knee

Happy Eat What You Want Day! May 11, 2015

I stayed today out by asking the kids, "If you could choose anything in the world to eat today what would it be?" I was quite pleased to get the answers: broccoli, peppers, cucumbers, steak, and spinach.

For dessert we had a little something of everyone's favorites, a bowl of our mixed treats, cookies, and raspberry shakes topped with fresh raspberries.
A great idea for celebrating today would have been to go to the local buffet, and save the clean up, but I would have missed out on the joy of preparing this meal together.

Happy Clean Your Room Day! Oh and Mother's Day Too! May 10, 2015

Today was Clean Your Room Day, and of course Mother's Day. My kids had cleaned their rooms yesterday knowing that this holiday was coming and wanting to surprise me. They even played in there all day and kept it clean. I'm one impressed mama.

For my Mother's Day I had such a great day. The kids did my nails. Even the two year old painted one. It was a lot of fun for all of us.

Then they did my hair so we could go to town and pick something out for an easy dinner with little clean up.

My nine year old made me this cute little emergency stash kit. I had to definitely share it. The little note says:
"I love you mommy so so much. You are fun. Thank you for funny Holidays. You are undescribable."

Happy Train Day! May 9, 2015

Train day is a cool day for my family, because my grandfather was a model railroader, so trains have always been a big part of my life, and today was a chance to share that with my kids.  My grandpa passed away a couple of years ago and it was so nice that we could go and walk through his train room to celebrate this holiday.  My grandma has kept it pretty much as it was the last day he was there.

The kids were just as amazed at his work as I always was, and we all learned some things about the room we didn't know.

This is one of my favorite pictures this truss was one of my grandpa's favorite things, he worked so hard on this piece.

My grandpa crafted this mountain himself.  He called it Blue Mountain.

This 3110 sign came off of an actual engine that had wrecked and my grandpa had to clean up.

The lantern on the right was used by my great grandpa when he worked for the railroad as a conductor and brake man.

The number one rule of the train room has always been posted as you walk in the door.  You don't touch dem trains.

Happy No Sock Day! May 8, 2015

Who doesn't love to be barefoot and feel the grass between your toes? Today is the day to free your little piggies and let them have some fresh air.  To take things a little further we painted no sock symbols on our big toes.

Happy Tourism Day! May 7, 2015

You don't need to go big or go home with these holiday celebrations.  We took a little trip down to the local tourist information center today, and even though my husband joked that they would tell us to get out because we weren't tourists, the nice gentleman that runs the front desk stood up showed us all of their brochures and gave us copies to take home.  He told the kids about the Bear Lake Monster, and how blue Bear lake can appear on a clear day overlooking it from Logan Canyon.  He told them about Old Ephram, Dinosaur Park, Willow Park Zoo, and the American West Heritage Center.  We all learned some new things, and the kids were each given a coloring book as a souvenir.  Today was a great day.
